SEO Consultant Small Business

Most small business owners know they need SEO. What they don't know is why their current approach isn't working — or what it actually costs to fix it.

The Problem Most Small Business Websites Have

Google doesn't rank pages. It ranks pages for specific things. When you put ten services on one page, Google doesn't know what that page is about. So it ranks it for nothing.

We worked with a mechanic in the GTA who had exactly this setup. One service page, everything on it. We split it out — brakes got its own page, tires got its own page, oil changes got its own page. Each page targeted the specific terms people actually search. He started ranking for each of those terms individually. That's the difference between being invisible and showing up when it counts.

How It Works

No guessing. No wasted time.

Every engagement follows the same proven process — from first call to first ranking.

Step 01 — Profile Audit & Setup

We audit every field — business name, categories, service areas, services, attributes, description, photos, Q&A. If it's incomplete or inconsistent, we fix it.

Step 02 — Category Strategy

Your primary and secondary GBP categories are the foundation of your map pack ranking. We research the optimal category set for your services and city

Step 03 — GBP Posts

We write and publish weekly GBP posts using our 4-part post template: headline, brand line, service body, link cluster. Every post reinforces your core keywords and local signals.

Step 04 - Photo Optimization

Real photos of real work. We advise on what to shoot, how to name files for SEO, and how to maintain a consistent upload schedule.

Step 05 — Weekly Optimization

We monitor search term reports, adjust bids, pause underperformers, and test new ad copy every week.

06 — Monthly Reporting

You get a plain-English report every month: impressions, clicks, calls, cost per lead, and what we're doing next.

What an SEO Consultant Actually Does for a Small Business

An SEO consultant isn't someone who logs into your website once and disappears. The job is to find what's holding your rankings back, build a clear plan to fix it, and help you execute — or execute it for you.

For a local small business, that usually means:

Google Business Profile first. Before anything else, your GBP needs to be complete — every service listed individually, descriptions written, photos uploaded, reviews coming in consistently. This is the fastest path to showing up in local searches. For most small businesses in the GTA, this alone moves the needle faster than anything on your website.

Service pages and location pages next. One page per service. One page per city or neighbourhood you serve. This is the structural fix that most sites need before any content work makes sense.

Technical cleanup. Slow load times, missing meta descriptions, broken links, no schema markup — these are silent ranking killers. A good consultant runs a proper SEO audit to surface them before writing a single word of content.

Content that targets real searches. Not blog posts for the sake of blogging. Pages built around what your customers are actually typing into Google at the moment they need you.

DrainRooter Plumbing Results.png

From zero Google presence to top 3 in the Map Pack.

DrainRooter came to us with a basic website, no GBP optimization, no schema markup, and zero Page 1 rankings for their core services. Within 4 months of launching the Core 30 architecture, they were ranking in the top 3 of the Google Map Pack for emergency plumbing keywords across Toronto — and the phone hadn't stopped ringing since.

Image Machines Technology Inc.

Specialist printer repair shop for equipment most technicians won't touch — large-format plotters, eco-solvent printers, and wide-format machines from Canon, HP, Mimaki, Roland, and more. When we started, the site had near-zero organic traffic (1 visit/month in Aug 2024) and zero rankings for core repair keywords. We built out the content architecture, launched a targeted blog program, and optimized key service pages — growing monthly organic traffic from 1 to 273 in 18 months.

Quick Print Traffic.png

Local print shop competing against Staples and FedEx Office in Oakville. Built full local SEO foundation — GBP optimization, 18 blog posts targeting Oakville print keywords, service page builds, and resolved duplicate Mississauga pages dragging down crawl efficiency.

Maple Leaf.png

Boutique inn relying heavily on OTA platforms for bookings — paying commission on every reservation. We rebuilt their Google Ads campaign from scratch targeting seasonal Ontario travel keywords, redesigned the landing page for direct bookings, and realigned the bidding strategy around actual booking intent. Direct bookings increased 218% while cost-per-booking dropped 62% compared to OTA channels.

01

We typically recommend a minimum of $1,000/month in ad spend for local service businesses. Below that, there's not enough data to optimize properly.

How much should I spend on Google Ads?

02

Yes. Always. We never lock clients out of their own accounts.

Do I own my Google Ads account?

05

Yes. We audit existing accounts and rebuild them where needed. Most underperforming campaigns have the same problems: broad match keywords, no negatives, weak landing pages.
